Try Try Again

I've tried, for the third time, to paint the view from yesterday's plein air outing. I am still not happy with it, but it is much improved from yesterday's work. I feel I am starting out my recent paintings wrong then they fail, but I haven't figured out what the problem is yet. Hopefully, I will get my mojo back soon!

And to use up the paint on the palette (I need to be more thrifty when squeezing out the paint), another abstract!

Your abstracts are amazing. Really!

Have you ever done a "graisaille" painting techinique? Maybe giving that a try will help? Just thinking.....

Thanks for compliment on the abstracts - they are fun to do. Yes, perhaps you are right about the 'graisaille' technique, although it might not have helped in the weather Saturday, nor in the time frame we had. I think it was because of the grey day, all the values were so dull and mid-tone, and I was not really inspired by the views. I know one problem is that I am using white in my mixtures too soon. That makes the mixtures too caulk-y and opaque. And perhaps I need to go back to start on a white canvas again.

I, for one, love this painting. I love seeing all the colors you used for this painting in your abstract! Perhaps your frustration with it is due to the simplicity of the setting compared to the dramatic red rocks, big open sky of Zion! What a contrast! Just the same, you are one talented lady!

Thanks Linda! Yes, Ohio scenery just can't compare to Zion!

Or you could just forget it and move on *wink.
