Painting of the Week - Lucy

Friend Barbara's dog, Lucy. I am so surprised that I was able to actually capture her sweet expression in her eyes. It truly looks like her. The photo used for the painting was taken at an odd angle, but she is a full size lab.

Painting of the Week - Xmas Cactus

Not happy with my class work last night. Everything just turned to mud. So, I enhanced it in my picture editing software.

Loss and Gain

Loss and Gain

When I compare
What I have lost with what I have gained,
What I have missed with what attained,
Little room do I find for pride.

I am aware
How many days have been idly spent;
How like an arrow the good intent
Has fallen short or been turned aside.

But who shall dare
To measure loss and gain in this wise?
Defeat may be victory in disguise;
The lowest ebb is the turn of the tide.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Signature Status

I'm IN!!!! Yeah!!!

I submitted three matted paintings to the Central Ohio Watercolor Society (c.O.W.S.) jury process on Saturday. This is a tough group to get in to. Applications for membership are only offered once a year. I left the paintings with the jury about 1pm, and was to return at 4 to pickup my paintings. There were approximately 10 applicants this year. I did get a chance to peek at my competition. I thought I had a good chance.

My former teacher (Charlie) who was on the jury, later confided in me that I was in and that I had one of the top scores! He wasn't supposed to tell, but have to wait for the official letter in the mail.... Of the 10 people trying to get in, 3 made it.

Now I can add the c.O.W.S. to my signature on my paintings!!! How fitting on my painting of the cattle!

Quotes

The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for.
Maureen Dowd

If you don't like something, change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it.

Malabar Farm State Park

In the rolling countryside of Richland County, Louis Bromfield, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and dedicated conservationist, created his dream -- Malabar Farm. Inspired by his love of the land, Bromfield restored the rich fertility of the farmlands and preserved the beauty of the woodlands. He built a 32-room country home, where his family, friends and neighbors could share the pleasure of life on the farm.

Malabar Farm was built in 1939 and was his home until his death in 1956. On May 21, 1945, Bromfield hosted Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall's wedding and honeymoon at Malabar Farm.

Highbanks Metro Park

Spent the evening taking nature shots. These are the best of the lot.

This one was taken with my new cell phone camera. Not bad, but I had the settings wrong and couldn't keep my hand steady.
